URBAN HAIKU:

Raw, passionate and uncompromising, Urban Haiku is a vital new voice in hip hop, a woman on a mission to wake up the world to the plight of those in the margins.

Born in England, raised in Canada and the United States in a West Indian family, Urban Haiku uses the medium of rap as a platform to examine the sacred, the profane, and all points in between. Her interpretation of hip hop is hip hop that looks in the mirror and says “I’m grown.”

Her first recordings in the form of a 4 track demo, turned heads immediately, with Charlie Gillet of "Sound of the World" BBC London playlisting "At The Gates" at No.7. An impromptu performance at Cargo followed, catching the attention of Max Reinhardt and Rita Ray of The Shrine.

“The majestic Urban Haiku took hold of the whole cavernous space of Cargo and shook us with her words, her warmth, her style, her sassy… She’s like a 21st century totally female Gil Scott Heron, jazz speech rhythms meet apocalyptic African-American radicalism.”

The carbon logic team are privileged and excited to announce that Urban Haiku will be releasing her debut recordings on carbon logic records.

News on her release schedule to follow shortly.
